The Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG) provide advice to NHS Scotland on the use of new and existing health technologies that are likely to have significant implications for people's care.

SHTG required a website that would make it simple for those seeking advice to find it and to properly document and make readily available all of their research, documents and data.

Information accessible to everyone.

All public sector websites are required, by law, to meet the key WCAG AA accessibility requirements so SHTG were able to leverage our digital accessibility expertise to ensure their site met them.

The design ensured all key accessibility measures were included. Text size, colour contrast, button spacing and the behind-the-scenes technical implementation.

We also incorporated Userway’s accessibility technology which is the world’s most advanced AI-powered accessibility compliance solution. This provides additional options in contrast and colour combinations, that may not be supported by a client browser.

A home to call their own

All SHTG content was previously housed within the main Healthcare Improvement Scotland website with all updates required to be requested via a central team.

The format of the previous site made it hard for interested parties to find the information they needed and limited the amount of information that could be included.

By delivering an accessible, easy to navigate website for SHTG they are now able to present a compelling and coherent picture of who they are, what they do and how they can achieve their vision to contribute to the better health and social care for everyone in Scotland.

The SHTG generates a lot of information in the form of data, reports and publications A key element of this project was to design an intuitive and efficient publication management system that not only made it simple to update and maintain but could also be used easily by end-users.

Whereas the existing library was presented as a static list, we introduced search and filtering functions to make the documents easier for end-users to find.

As a team we’re delighted with our new website. One of our key aims from the new site was to ensure our work is visible and accessible – which is paramount in delivering advice on health technologies across Scotland.
